What is Diabetes and How Does It Occur?

What is Diabetes and How Does It Occur? will be held at the at the Annenberg Health Sciences Building on Wednesday, October 23 2013 from 04:30PM to 06:30PM.

Healthy Night Out

Tom Hanks’ disclosure that he has type 2 diabetes spotlights one of this country’s most troubling health dilemmas: a national diabetes epidemic. Diabetes is the condition in which the body does not properly process food for use as energy.

Almost 26 million children and adults (8.3 percent) of the United States population has diabetes, and about 79 million Americans have pre-diabetes and are at risk for developing the disease, government statistics show. One in three Americans may develop diabetes by 2050 if something isn’t done to reverse the trend, government statistics suggest.

The number of people with pre-diabetes is overwhelming. Our panel of experts will provide insight into risks and intervention to delay or prevent you and your loved ones from developing the disease:
K. Douglas Thrasher, DO, Family Medicine
Marielena Cid, RN, CDE, BSN, Diabetes Program, Eisenhower Medical Center
Yuri Krochmaluk, RN, Diabetes Program, Eisenhower Medical Center
