Pain Management

For patients with acute or chronic pain, the Eisenhower Pain Management program works to control or stop the painful symptoms with a variety of non-interventional and interventional therapies.

Non-interventional treatments include oral, transdermal (through the skin, for example, applying patches), transmucosal (through the mucus membranes, for example, under the tongue), intravenous narcotic and non-narcotic pain medications, and physical therapy (manipulation, massage, electrical muscle stimulation, hydrotherapy, and exercise).

Interventional pain treatments include steroid and anesthetic injections [epidural, facet joints (between the vertebrae), nerve blocks], epidural spinal cord stimulation techniques, and intrathecal procedures (implanting a pump).
