Scheduled to open in spring 2010, the Eisenhower S George and Julia Argyros Health Center rises from the desert floor, taking shape, becoming real. Destined to provide a broad spectrum of health care services to the La Quinta community, the $55 million, three-story, 92,000-square-foot facility is the first of three buildings of the 195,000-square-foot Eisenhower Argyros Medical Plaza.

    The Center
The Eisenhower Argyros Health Center will house a 7,000-square-foot Eisenhower Express Clinic, offering quality medical care for urgent but non-life threatening conditions. The new Eisenhower Express Clinic will contain 13 state-of-the-art treatment areas and will replace the existing 4,500-square-foot Eisenhower Express Clinic in La Quinta.

The Eisenhower Argyros campus will also include a 12,000-square-foot Eisenhower Imaging Center, a 2,500-square-foot Eisenhower Labtechniques, a 5,000-square-foot Eisenhower BIGHORN Radiation Oncology Center, a 3,000-square-foot Eisenhower Pharmacy, a satellite Arnold Palmer Prostate Center, an Eisenhower Schnitzer/Novack Breast Center, a health and wellness center, an Executive Physical program and a significant primary care physician practice with up to 15 primary care physicians.

    Primary Care Physicians
Board certified in Family Practice, Joseph Scherger, MD, MPH serves as Vice President for Primary Care at Eisenhower Medical Center overseeing the dedicated team of primary care physicians. Also a Clinical Professor of Family & Preventive Medicine at the University of California, San Diego, School of Medicine, Dr. Scherger will focus the elite physician practice on wellness, overall health, physical fitness and disease prevention.

    Brick and Mortar
Currently, construction crews work to install utilities (including a water main), and to complete the curb/gutter, and the first layer of asphalt installation. The elevator shaft framing has begun, and the exterior framing of all three floors is underway. The roof is also being installed.

On the second floor, the interior framing has been completed. Of the three planned retaining walls, the two walls securing the southeast side (shown above) are complete, and work has begun on the northwest retaining wall along Washington Street.

In the next 90 days, the stunning building exterior will emerge — an elegant, artistic combination of terracotta tiles, stucco, and aluminum.

In the first four years, Eisenhower George and Julia Argyros Health Center will employ more than 100 health care professionals and provide health care and prevention services to a population of 80,000 to 100,000 people.
