The third annual Critical Care Conference at Eisenhower Medical Center was a triumphant success with an all-time high attendance of 225 physicians, nurses and allied health professionals participating in the June 2, 2007 conference. “It is wonderful to see in just three years our numbers essentially double,” says Shahriyar Tavakoli, MD,Medical Director of Critical Care at Eisenhower Medical Center and Conference Chairperson. The Critical Care Conference addressed several key issues: Utilizing the latest evidence-based information on Intensive Care Unit (ICU) treatment strategies in the areas of airway management, antibiotic treatment, hemodynamics and infectious diseases. Implementation of appropriate critical care treatment of patients with acute coronary syndrome. Reporting of ethical issues facing critical care health care providers. Reporting on the latest practices related to neurosurgical emergencies in the ICU. In addition to 23 exhibitors—from pharmaceutical manufacturers to equipment suppliers—the conference featured numerous seasoned professionals as presenters including: Henri Colt, MD, Professor of Medicine, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, University of California, Irvine Medical Center; Steven Hollenberg, MD, Professor of Medicine, Director, Coronary Care Unit, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School; Farhad Limonadi, MD, Chairman, Brain Tumor Board and Tumor Work Group, Eisenhower Medical Center; and Henry Masur, MD, Chief, Critical Care Medicine Department, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland.
