    Passionate in Work and Play

Medicine and athletic competition are two of Dr. Enrique G. Jacome’s greatest passions — setting and achieving high standards have earned him accolades and awards in both.

Long-time avid cyclists, Dr. Jacome and his wife Karla first competed in mountain bike racing, and later in road cycling. Three years ago they took up running which led to their first Toyota Triathlon International competition. Much to their surprise, their relay team placed second — whetting their appetite for more.

Last March, the couple competed individually in La Quinta’s Lake Cahuilla Duathlon (one-mile run, 14-mile bike and three-mile run). Their expectations were not high, so Dr. Jacome was surprised and thrilled by the outcome.

“I won the gold medal. I was ecstatic!” exclaimed Dr. Jacome. “Now I’m training for a longer race and looking forward to my next competition.”

Dr. Jacome brings the same zeal to medicine. Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Jacome has been with Eisenhower Medical Center since 1995. He was the first Riverside County physician to perform robotic surgery using the Da Vinci® S HD Surgical System, setting a new standard for surgical treatment for a wide range of gynecological conditions. Today, Dr. Jacome is recognized as a leading expert in robotic surgery, having performed nearly 500 robotic procedures and more than 3,000 laparoscopic cases.

“Data from all of these cases will serve as a benchmark for Eisenhower and for our community,” notes Dr. Jacome, adding that he will present his findings at the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists’ Global Congress in November.

Dr. Jacome’s work has been published in the Journal of Robotic Surgery, The Journal of Minimally Invasive Gynecology and The Journal of Reproductive Medicine®. His professional honors include: La Prensa Hispana’s 2012 Physician of the Year for his contributions to the local Hispanic community; Eisenhower Medical Center’s 2011 Physician of the Year; and inclusion in the International Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists’ The Leading Physicians of the World publication.

“I am delighted to see Eisenhower grow into a Robotic Surgical Institution involving multiple specialties — recognized not only locally, but nationally — and providing the ultimate surgical care,” says Jacome.
